Prom Pics From 1996 to 2008!

Thad and I went to the prom a week or two ago and had a blast dressing up, seeing my students, and just enjoying the atmosphere and a doing a little dancing. If we were in high school I'd be cutting these pictures out, writing things like "BFFs forever" or "have a great summer" on the back of them. Either way...I thought that this would be fun. I found our prom picture from 1996 in the top of my dresser drawer and scanned it in...the hair's a bit crazy but oh well! Enjoy!

Our newest nephew's here!

Thad and I have added quite a few to our list of nieces and nephews recently (this is the third one this year). We are now excited to announce that Cathy and Danny's third little one, Lucas, made his appearance this morning. He weighed in at 8 lbs 11 oz and was 20 inches long! He's got a bunch of black hair and is a mix of Cathy and Danny! :) Congrats to Jared and Lizzie too--they're definitely excited about their new brother! I got to go in and see him (but no kids allowed) so Sammy, Thad, and Nathan drove around and watched the trains while I ran upstairs to see him! Cathy is doing well (Danny too) just tired from a long night! :)
I'll try to get some photos in this SmugMug gallery!

A long, restful, full of work and wonderful weekend!

What a weekend! WOW! I am so happy, rested, and so excited to see my kids tomorrow! It has been great to have a few days to myself to get all of the things that usually get neglected done!! I did a zillion loads of laundry and still have a few more for tonight and most of them folded and put away! I cleaned out the cars, weeded and tended to my garden, cleaned my room, cleaned Sammy and Nathan's room and sorted and cleaned up the toys and put them into storage bins that Sammy can easily get out and clean up, sorted and put all of the 0-3 month and 3-6 month, and 18 month -2T clothes into storage bins, moved all of the "non-construction" (aka family junk) stuff off of the kitchen and living room so that Thad can put the new floor down...oh, and Saturday I helped my mom clean up to get ready for my Aunt and Uncle to come, and took them to the airport at 4 am on Sunday morning! Phew. It was wonderful to be able to get so much done without having to worry about nap time or feeding/taking care of someone else, and especially being able to sleep through the night and not get up till 7 or 8 am! Woo hoo! This weekend was definitely a blessing and a recharge for me. :)

p.s. Thad survived and even had fun with the kids in Utah!
p.p.s. Cathy still is pregnant but ready and willing to get it out anytime. It will be fun to see what she has...we still don't know what she's having!

My three day weekend... :D

So, Thad, Sammy, and Nathan just jumped in the van with Grandma and Grandpa Marcroft to head to Utah for a baby blessing. My sister Cathy is 38 weeks pregnant and my parents are leaving for China tomorrow, her mother-in-law is still in Utah helping with the last grandbaby, so I am here holding down the fort, the dog, and making sure that she is okay and that I'm here if she needs me. Thad wanted to know if I wanted to keep the kids or if I wanted him to take them...I figured that Sammy would have more fun with the cousins, then I had to decide about the baby...but by then my brain was reeling with ideas of what I could get done without kids. He said that he'd take them both and here is my list of things to get done by Monday night: catch up on my grades, write my quizzes for next week, clean out the cars, clean up our junk at my mom's, clean up the living room and the kitchen at our house to get ready for the new floor, clean up and sort stuff in our bedroom, and take care of my garden and my mom's garden. Oh yeah, and I bought a ticket to see the school play tomorrow night and I don't have to get the kids down before I leave, or even have to get a sitter! But the best part....is....that I can sleep and NOT get up in the middle of the night to feed a baby or change a diaper and I haven't done that in over 7 long months. Yes, I will miss them, but they'll only be gone till Monday night...and I will cherish them even more when they're home again!

Up and almost moving...

Here's a picture of Nathan rockin' away! He's really having fun getting up on his hands and knees and trying to crawl. Keep it up little guy...you're almost there! :) Oh, and the "King Nathan" hat was put on him by "King Sammy" ;)

Something simple and super delicious!!

My sis-in-law Sarah made these for breakfast the other morning when she had us over and they were soooo delicious! :) Definitely worth trying out (she forgot to put the glaze on them and they were still YUMMY!)

Here's the recipe from foodnetwork.com

Nutty Orange Coffee Cake Recipe courtesy Paula Deen
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans
2 teaspoons orange zest
2 (12-ounce) cans refrigerated buttermilk biscuits (10 count)
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter
1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar, pecans, and zest; set aside. Separate the biscuits. Place about 3/4 teaspoon cream cheese in the center of each biscuit. Fold each biscuit in half over the cheese, pressing the edges to seal. Dip the biscuits in melted butter, then dredge in the granulated sugar mixture. Place the biscuits, curved-side down, in a single layer in the hollows of a lightly greased 12-cup bundt pan, spacing them evenly (do not stack). Place any remaining biscuits around the tube, filling any gaps. Drizzle any remaining butter over the biscuits, and sprinkle with any remaining sugar mixture. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until golden brown. Immediately invert the cake onto a serving platter. Combine the confectioners' sugar and orange juice, stirring well; drizzle the glaze over the warm cake. Serve warm.

One month ago...

One month ago we were in the hospital right after Nathan's cranial vault surgery to fix his sagittal synostosis and now it's like he's never had it. When I look at him now (scar and all) his head looks great! I never realized that it looked that funny until I compare it to what it looks like now. It was always big and kind of skinny but now I can see how egg-shaped it was! He's doing great--he really is! Thad and my mom took the boys to Jill Peterson's and had their pictures taken a week or two ago as a mother's day surprise. She takes great photos and always seems to get the kids to smile and have fun! Here's a proof or two...now I just have to decide which of my favorites to get! :)

Wickedly good!

If you haven't gone to see Wicked yet it is still at the Pantages in Hollywood (but only till January 11, 2009). It is great! We went with our friends last night for the third time and it has been better each time! :) We saw it first in NY on Broadway when we were chaperoning for school (MUN), then we saw it when it first came to the Pantages and then again last night. It is so much fun, the music is great, and it is a fun twist on what really happened before Dorothy came to Oz! :)

I'm not as good as I thought I was...

If you're one of those I never do anything wrong moms you might as well stop reading now...but for the rest of us here is a silly story to make you giggle. I was up changing and feeding Nathan about 4:30 this morning and I was thinking to myself, "wow, that is pretty good that I change him in the dark every night!" Well, I guess that I can't because this morning when he woke up at 7 he was all wet and I couldn't figure out why until Thad pulled his super wet clothes off. His diaper was on alright, but his little pee-pee was sticking out the side--I had put it on crooked and left his boy parts outside of the diaper. Nice one mom! I guess that diapers don't work as well that way eh?!

So that's how they get pics like this?!

Sammy was being naughty today (he was hitting, kicking, and spitting on his cousins--fun eh?) while I was feeding Nathan so I grabbed him and stuck him in time out for two minutes. In the 30 seconds that it took me to grab Sammy and sit him down in timeout Nathan had somehow reached the food and spoon and well you can see for yourself what happened! :) I always wondered how people got pictures like this--did they stick it in their kids hair? Nope..I didn't have to (well he doesn't really have much hair anyway) but it's all over!

A sweet (and early) surprise!

So we got in the car the other day and Thad reached in his pocket and pulled out a little box. It was a beautiful pair of diamond earrings! I was so excited! He's not usually the overly romantic type and it was fun to see him all giddy and cute! I'm really bad about wearing jewelry (I guess that you could say I am part of the 70% of moms who let themselves go after having kids?) so he called my mom to see what I would wear and she assured him that I would wear them as long as they were small! They are the perfect size for me! And I feel so grown up--silly eh?! :) The cutest part was that they are for mother's day but he was so excited and anxious that he gave them to me early!! :) Thank you Thaddeus!

Nemo and the fish tank...

So the other day Cathy, Lizzie, Jared, Grandma, Grandpa, Sammy, Nathan and I went to my high school's "Don Fiesta" mini fair/carnival. It was small, but the perfect size for Sam and Liz, they had a blast. It was fun to see my school kids there and they were excited to see my children and nieces/nephews! One of my kids handed Sammy a bag with two goldfish in it (I specifically hadn't gone to the fish booth) but once he had them there wasn't any going back! He immediately named them Nemo and Dory and we took them home with us. Sammy was super excited! The only trouble was that when we walked in Sammy noticed that Nemo was sleeping. Uh-oh! When I got him to bed I became one of those moms. I couldn't have Sammy wake up in the morning and have Nemo dead and gone so Thad and I ran out to Wal-Mart to replace the goldfish before he noticed! We grabbed another "Nemo" as well as a tank, rocks, plants etc. The new goldfish was only 28 cents but we ended up spending an extra $25 as well! Too bad Dory died a few days later... At least Nemo is still alive and well!
